Overview
The installation program creates a WPS folder with some program objects
and adds RUNCMD.EXE to your CONFIG.SYS.
When RUNCMD is called from within CONFIG.SYS, it waits the specified
amount of seconds (default: 3 seconds), if the key combination L-SHIFT, L-CONTROL
and L-ALT are pressed simultaneously.
If that is the case, a command processor (%COMSPEC%, which is
normally CMD.EXE) or a specified command is started.
Unlike other utilities, RUNCMD does not display any text on the
screen, while it is waiting. It just moves the cursor one character to the
right for each second it is waiting.
More, you can let RUNCMD stop
unconditionally with creating the flagfile ?:\RUNCMD (called stopfile).
This feature is very helpful when you are already sure, that you
have to interrupt CONFIG.SYS processing during the next startup. By creating
the stopfile you can achive that without having to wait for the right moment
to press the special key combination.
You also can run additional commands by creating the special startup command
file ?:\_RUNCMD.CMD. If this file exists, executes it before it waits for the
key combination or stops due to existence of the stopfile.
This command file is something similar like STARTUP.CMD, but you can
absolutely be sure, that the WPS is not started, until
?:\_RUNCMD.CMD has finished, which is not true for STARTUP.CMD.
The program objects in the RUNCMD folder support you in testing the program,
creating and deleting the stopfile and other tasks.
Online help is available by executing: RUNCMD /?.
